Boo Boo Lost in Hebden Bridge

Many children are very attached to their cuddly toys, my own children being no different. My daughter has long been in love with her cuddly toys and various TY Beanies that she has, even to this point whilst she is a teenager.

One cuddly toy that was recently spotted by the blog author on the way to work at Silly Billy’s Toy shop on Friday 30th June 2017 is a Teddy called Boo Boo, whose owner is Uma. There is a picture of Boo Boo below and the sign where he was spotted on Friday in Hangrinroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge, HX7. In part, to assuage my own guilt a little, I am writing this blog post to get even more visibility for Boo Boo the lost bear. I say that I feel guilty because I did think about picking Boo Boo up and taking him to Silly Billy’s Toy shop, and now rather regretfully I am sorry to say I did not take this course of action.

Uma came into Silly Billy’s Toy shop today with her dad and was looking rather distraught so it is a sad state of affairs that Boo Boo may have been carried off by another child or adult. If you have seen an sign of Boo Boo then please get in touch with us here at SillY Billy’s Toy shop, easiest way is through our Facebook Page, although if you are not one of the 2 BILLION monthly active Facebook users then you can use this form instead

At some point on Friday 31st June 2017 then, between approximately 9am and 5 40 pm, Boo Boo was taken from the point where he was sat patiently waiting for his owner on the road sign; if anyone has seen Boo Boo or picked him up then please get in touch with us here at Silly Billy’s and we will re-unite him with Uma.

Our main Cuddly Toy that we stock at Silly Billy’s is the TY range and we have recently reduced the price of all our TY Key rings aka BooClips to £2.99 which makes us one of the cheapest places in the UK to buy TY Key rings / Booclips from.

We had our TY rep come into the shop the other day and we are going to be getting some more TY in the next few weeks, both new TY beanies and new Teeny TY.

Please don’t forget to like Silly Billy’s Facebook Page and share the post above to  help re-unite Boo Boo and Uma.

Silly Billy’s Toy Shop are also very active on Twitter and Pinterest so search for us there as well if you use any of those Social Media Platforms.

Hebden Bridge Arts Festival and More

The yearly Hebden Bridge Arts Festival will soon be upon us. This year the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival is running from the 23rd June to 2nd July 2017 with the strap line of “All the Town’s a Stage”. Hebden Bridge is a haven for artists and poets and I am helping out one such poet with their website which will soon be unveiled.

More news is the disappearance of the old five pound note and today is the last day that you can use your old five pound notes in Silly Billy’s Toy shop. after today we cannot take the good old fiver and no other shops will.
Old Five Pound Note

What happens if you haven’t spent your old £5 note by Midnight Today the 5 th May 2017?

  1. You won’t be able to spend the old five pound notes in shops or restaurants.
  2. If you want to swap the old £5 bank notes over for new plastic you will have to make the trip into a bank, building society or Post Office.
  3. You will have to be a customer of the bank in question for them to exchange the old note.
  4. You can go to the local Post Office to deposit the old fivers into your bank account also, the Post Office will probably not change them for you although you could always ask the question.

Fidget Spinners, they have gone viral !

So we have sold out of Fidget Spinners at Silly Billy’s and people have literally gone nuts for them. TODAY we are getting more stock in though we are unsure when it will arrive. As soon as the new Fidget Toys arrive we will put a post on Silly Billy’s Facebook Page.
Today we are hoping to have more stock of the Whirlerz Fidget Spinners at £3.99 and also some Fidget Cubes.
Next week we will have some more varieties of Fidget Spinners assuming our supplier has stock including some metallic ones.

Things to do:

Here are some things that you can do:

  1. Like our Facebook page to make sure you are up to date with what is happening with us, Robert A Williams writes blog posts potentially once or twice a week, although the easiest way to keep up to speed is to Follow Silly Billy’s on Facebook
  2. Spend your old five pound notes TODAY at Silly Billy’s Toy Shop
  3. Make a note of the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival dates in your diaries
  4. Read the recent post about Silly Billy’s reaching the grand old age of Twenty

Silly Billy’s Toy Shop is Twenty Years Old Today

Bill Deakin founded Silly Billy’s Toy Shop as an Independent Toy Shop Twenty Years ago in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.
Despite a great deal of significant change in UK Toy Retail and several floods in Hebden Bridge, Silly Billy’s has managed to stay afloat.

This is no mean feat when you consider that twenty years ago there were far more Independent Toy Shops around and now sadly many have closed down or been amalgamated into the ToyMaster Group.  Silly Billy’s is still trading after 20 years because of both it’s location and also it’s tenacity. To find out more about what was popular in the Toy Trade twenty years ago then read this article.

Some of the Top Toys of 1997 were the TeleTubbies, Tamagotchi and Buzz Lightyear. Most of which Silly Billy’s Toy Shop have never stocked! We have seen trends and crazes come and go in the last twenty years and the latest Fidget Spinners craze is really turning the tables. Hebden Bridge is an anomaly in the general Toy industry in that popular Toys UK wide can often flop in Hebden Bridge and Bill has learnt many lessons over the past two decades as to what will, and will not, be successful.
Silly Billy’s has faced many challenges over the years and Bill has hung on through thick and thin, the Floods of Boxing Day 2015 almost seeing the business close and without the help of many local people and CFFC we may well have done just that. However, Silly Billy’s managed to continue trading and even relocate to brand new premises in Hebden Bridge.

Bill is not having a Twentieth Birthday party at the shop though he does say that he will have one for the Silver Anniversary of Silly Billy’s in 2022.
We would like to thank all our customers for their continued support, without which we would have closed down, like so many of the other Independent Toy Shops in the UK.

We are happy to be trading from our new location of Old Gate House next door to the Amazing Homely at Hebden, a great shop for Annie Sloan chalkpaint supplies or home furnishings and inspirational ideas. Did you know that they also run Courses on how best to use Chalk Paint?

If you would like to give us anything on our 20th Birthday then all we ask is that perhaps you take the time to review us on Facebook or follow one of our Social Media Profiles:

Hebden Bridge Market has moved

Dave Young has given us some useful information about Hebden Bridge Market which we would like to share as some visitors to Hebden Bridge may not be aware of the new Hebden Bridge Market situation so here it is straight from the Horse’s Mouth, as it were:
The new Hebden Bridge Market is up and running today (thursday 13th  at Lees Yard. It will be a 4 day Hebden Bridge Market. Thursday as Usual, Friday – Bric-a-brac, Saturday Local Artisan Market – Arts & Crafts etc and Sunday Local Produce Market.

Hebden Bridge Market Transfers to Lees Yard

The new, and hopefully better, Hebden Bridge Market opens on Thursday 13 April 2017 (today) in its new area of Lees Yard on the side of St George’s Square.

Work has been happening over the last 10 weeks to prepare the site for the all new Hebden  market. Alterations have actually been made to the existing format and also include a new prep work unit for traders, storage facility for stalls and also public lavatories.

Along with the regular Thursday market, the bric-a-brac market which typically opens on a Wednesday will change to every Friday, in Lees Yard, from Friday 14 April (Good Friday).

There will also be an added, new Saturday market, selling crafts as well as craftsmen items. This will be every Saturday, from 15 April.

The Sunday local produce market will stay in Lees Yards and will now open each and every Sunday

Dave Young was at the market this morning for an interview with BBC Radio Leeds which was broadcast earlier today

For more details about Hebden Bridge Market moves and changes please visit Calderdale’s website at:

Hebden Bridge Duck Race 2017 – New Products

Hebden Bridge Duck Race 2017

New Products in the Shop for Easter Holidays

Soon Hebden Bridge Duck Race 2017 will be upon us. Last year’s Hebden Bridge Duck Race was well attended although not as well as the Hebden Bridge Duck race of 2015. This was due to the disaster that befell Hebden Bridge on Boxing Day 2o16.

This year we are hoping the Hebden Bridge Duck Race will be a huge event with hopefully even more people attending than there were in 2015. Again because of Bill’s love of Chelsea FC we are supporting the Blue Team in the business Duck Race challenge, the author’s (Robert A Williams) feeling though is that the Red Team, supported by Cafe Solo, Homely at Hebden, and others will triumph.

Saw Lego Batman Movie Opening Night – And I Was Not Disappointed!

Lego Batman Movie Coming to Hebden Bridge Picture House Next Weekend

Lego Batman Movie

Images Originating from: https://imgflip.com/i/1jo9me

With the Lego Batman Movie coming to the Hebden Bridge Picture House in 12 days time, we can see the excitement that has already been generated from the general release on 10th February. We have written about Lego Batman before on this blog and have held out seeing the new movie until it’s release in our local Independent Cinema, The Hebden Bridge Picture House.

What have the critics said ?
Owen Gleiberman in Variety says:
The first thing to say about “The Lego Batman Movie” is that it’s kicky, bedazzling, and super-fun. The second thing to say about it is that, like “The Lego Movie” (2014), it’s a kiddie flick that’s been made in a sophisticated spirit of lightning-fast, brain-bursting paradox. The movie uses digital animation to create the illusion that it’s set in a herky-jerky universe of plastic Lego bricks — but it has such a kaleidoscopic, anything-goes flow that it trumps the imagination of just about any animated feature you could name. The characters are Lego minifigures with pegs for heads and crudely etched faces that barely move, yet they have more personality than the majority of human actors. Most delicious of all: “The Lego Batman Movie” comes on like a kid-friendly sendup of the adult world, yet there’s a dizzying depth to its satirical observations that grows right out of the spectacularly fake settings, which are hypnotic to look at but have the effect of putting postmodern quotation marks around…everything.
Originally published here

We have plenty of Lego Batman Minifgures left for all of you trying to complete the Lego Batman Movie Minifgure collection of twenty minifigures. As this is a limited edition release of minifgures you can expect them to increase in value just as the Lego Movie (2014) Minifgures have done. See image below:
Lego Movie MinifguresOriginal Price £2.49 RRP per minifigure so one set would cost 16 x £2.49 = £39.84 if you can determine each minifgure individually

Sale price £79.99 which is pretty much double the cost price.
