Silly Billy’s Opening Good Friday 2016

Silly Billy’s Opening at New Location

We are ready to trade tomorrow as planned. Today we have been busy preparing the shop and cleaning, tidying and sorting. Gordon from Impact Chalkboards has created some lovely A-Boards which we are going to put out in and around Hebden Bridge to publicise our new toy shop location at Old Gate.

For our opening and ALL Bank Holiday weekend until closing on Duck Race Day of Easter Monday we are giving you the opportunity to win Silly Billy‘s much loved Spiderman.
Due to the lower ceiling height in our new shop we can no longer fit Spiderman into Silly Billy‘s.

To be in with a chance of winning Spiderman all you need to do is spend a minimum of £5 (that’s five english pounds) in one transaction, in our shop over Bank Holiday weekend. If you do that and you remind us to give you a raffle ticket then you will be entered into the draw to win Spiderman, pictured below

Calderdale Rising Crowdfund on the Up and Up!

Calderdale Rising Crowdfund on the Up and Up!

A collective crowdfunding campaign, called Calderdale Rising, which was only launched on Friday 15th January 2015, is trending as the most popular campaign on Crowdfunder.co.uk, which currently hosts over 1,000 other live projects, and has already raised almost £110,000.

Led by Business for Calderdale and supported by other business groups in the area, it was created to help support around 100 businesses across Calderdale that were heavily affected by the 2015 Boxing Day floods.  The businesses taking part in the scheme, range from high street shops to professional services and companies in the industrial sector, many of which are still unable to open. The vast majority of these businesses are small, independent and family owned, and many have had to make redundancies whilst they rebuild their premises and purchase new equipment and stock.

Crowdfunding initiatives differ from traditional charity fundraising, as they allow people to not only donate, but also to buy rewards, which may be products or ‘money can’t buy’ experiences. For example, the most popular reward on the page is the Hebden VIP Card, which at £25 to purchase then provides a range of discounts in a number of shops in the town, which is one of the most unique shopping destinations in the country. 74 of these cards have already been sold.

Bridestones Brewery, whose bar and micro-brewery “drink?” was badly hit in the floods, have also offered 3 ‘Beer Lovers Ultimate Gift’ which costs £500 each and allows the purchaser to create, produce and name one of their new ‘Flood Range’ of real ales, alongside the Head Brewer. One of these has already been sold, so there are only 2 remaining.

Plus for visitors to the area, the ‘Grand Day Out’ offered by The Bicycle Den, who also provide details of the iconic routes of the Tour de France for the riders to follow, with a bit of help to power up those hills with electric bikes, is available for £65 (or £50 for the first 10 purchases).  And Hebden Bridge Cruises is selling its Cream Tea afternoon cruises for £20 through the site.

The money raised by the scheme will be shared between all the businesses taking part in the campaign, and with a range of rewards for all pockets, the organisers hope that is will raise a substantial amount of money to help these businesses recover a little more quickly.

Silly Billy’s Toy Shop takes part in Calderdale Rising

Silly Billy’s Toy Shop, An Independent Toy Shop, is taking part in Calderdale Rising, a crowdfunding campaign to help support a number of the 1,250 businesses across Calderdale that were heavily affected by the 2015 Boxing Day floods.

Launching today (Friday 15th January 2015) at 12:26pm, the campaign is headed up by Business for Calderdale and supported by other business groups in the area. Over 70 businesses are taking part in the scheme, ranging from high street shops to professional services and firms in the industrial sector, many of which are still unable to open.

Crowdfunding initiatives are different from traditional charity donations as they allow people to not only donate, but also to buy rewards. The rewards will include products showcasing the businesses involved, “money can’t buy” experiences, alongside a Hebden Supporters Card offering a 20% discount in a number of shops in the town, and various other perks.

The money raised by the campaign will be shared between all the businesses taking part in the scheme.

Bill Deakin, Proprietor, at Silly Billy’s Toy Shop, said, “The Boxing Day floods have massively impacted on our business as well as many others in the area. We received great support during the clean up operation but now we need funding to get back on our feet. We are pleased and thankful to be taking part in the Calderdale Rising Crowdfunding scheme and we hope that many people will get behind ourselves and our fellow businesses to help raise the funds we so desperately need.”

The Calderdale region, particularly areas such as; Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Copley, Brighouse, Elland, Sowerby Bridge and Mytholmroyd were devastated by the flooding and still require funds and services to help them re-establish. So far, fundraising for the 2,573 residents, co-ordinated through Community Foundation for Calderdale, has exceeded £700,000, which is expected to be matched, pound for pound, through the Government’s match funding scheme.

Bill has been working tirelessly coordinating with suppliers and securing the new premises and much has been going on behind the scenes. Our new shop location has been revealed as some of you may already know. For those who don’t know I will be writing a post about our new shop in the near future.

The pop up shop will have some select lines in it and we are hoping anything that we don’t have that you may want, we might be able to find in storage.

In the mean time we are also selling some Lego on Auction in our Ebay Shop, please bid if you like Lego as it would really help us out. As we have not been trading for the past two weeks.

Continuation of Trading

Silly Billy’s is Trading

Dear Shoppers, readers, supporters, local folk and anyone not mentioned,
After a friend of mine asked me for Flashing Projector Globes I went to our storage facility and obtained seven of them for her. So we would like to offer you all the chance to buy products if you wish, the only problem is we do not have an inventory of what we have left due to records lost in the flood.

What we can do as an interim measure is ask you to contact me Robert Williams, through Facebook, or Silly Billy’s Toy Shop through Facebook
OR email Silly Billy’s Toy Shop

You can ring the shop as well and it will be diverted to a mobile phone.

We can supply what we have so if you have knowledge of the stock and lines that we carry then please get in touch with us and we will endeavour to help you out. Even if you don’t then feel free to ask us. We can post stock out to you if you require, simply ask us for anything and we will do our best to supply you.

We are taking a break from Physical Shop and Stock until Monday 4th January 2016 and next week we hope to start a physical pop-up shop  and an online store, although this will take some time to establish so please bare with us.

Clean Up Day Three

Silly Billy‘s Clean Up Day Three

We spent much of the day moving our stock around and taking stock to our store room in the hope that we would be able to get our floor sorted out, unfortunately this did not happen.

We are a little stymied now for trading as we have faulty electrics, a sodden wooden floor with some large holes in and as a consequence we cannot re-open just yet. We appreciate this must be disappointing for you all and we are trying to find a solution.

Again there were many volunteers from in and out of Hebden Bridge around today and people co-ordinating efforts from the Town Hall. Many thanks again to those who have served the community so well in this difficult time.
